For many women, myself included, maternity leave is something to look forward to and enjoy.

However for some women, getting back to work as soon as possible is the order of the day.  Of course for many women this will be a case of necessity rather than absolute choice but for a small minority taking maternity leave is seen as a sign of weakness....

Er, hello?? Even putting aside the fact that physically you will probably feel like you've been hit by a bus (repeatedly) what about spending some time with your gorgeous new bubba?

So I was quite shocked to learn about a headmistress of an independent girls school who, after the birth of her 3rd child, was back at her desk 7 hours later. Yes, 7 HOURS later. Why? Because she wanted to show 'her girls' that they can indeed have it all. If by having it all she means popping out babies in the morning then back at work by lunchtime then she can keep it!

Also, Dr Helen Wright, said headmistress, has the luxury of bringing her baby to work with her. A luxury not afforded to most working mothers. 

My advice? Take advantage of your maternity leave where you can. It's your right!
